Choices

Becky — 25 June 2009 - 11:03am

Kim Carey has been heading up a project to involve local youthworkers in delivering the Choices course in Southampton schools. Over this last academic year, Choices has run in Upper Shirley High, Regents Park and Cantell schools. One of the teachers at Upper Shirley even contacted the council to tell them how the Choices course had worked wonders with their students that are in danger of permanent exclusion. More news will follow as we get feedback from the youthworkers involved.

Over the summer a few of the local church youthworkers met to adapt SAFE's Choices course for use with youth. It was great spending time with those guys - we know each other so well. From eating lunch, hanging out, going places, we've built up brilliant friendships and that's where I see unity between Christians from different backgrounds. When we come to do a project together, we know each other and understand where we're coming from. I think friendships generally (probably not always) need to come first for unity to work, but that's a topic for another conversation.Read more

Unite is a small charity based in Southampton. What do we do? Hmm, maybe we aren't sure right now. We want to figure out the best way we can be part of the church in Southampton and we want that church to be good at doing all the things that Jesus asked his friends to get on with. We write about our adventure in figuring this out here. Hope you like it. No offence ever meant.
