Christian schools ... A good thing?
Chris — 18 July 2008 - 4:24pm
I read an post by a chap called Hamo today called "why we should get rid of christian schools". He is writing from an Australian perspective, where it seems that Christian schools are becoming increasingly common, to the point where there aren't many Christian teachers in state schools.Read more
That's what I call church.
Chris — 23 May 2008 - 10:04pm
I was really encouraged by my friend Tom today. He is a good friend who lives and works in the Shirley Warren estate. He used to be in the youth group I helped run but now I think he teaches me more than I teach him. I'm happy to be able to say that. That's what I call church. Read more
Anticipation
Chris — 23 May 2008 - 11:43am
Just heading off to school to do a bible study group with some kids who have never been to church, think God isn't real and would tell you they aren't even interested. Anyway, they come to bible study group each week. We deliberately call it bible study group to put people off coming unless they really want to. Sometimes we have good chats, other times they just mess around.Read more
Seeds
Chris — 12 May 2008 - 2:35pm
I love the way Jesus taught about seeds. He taught about them but he also lived the same way. He seemed happy to drop a thought into someone's head and then leave them with it. Or to act kindly towards someone and let them think about what it meant. He trusted that his Father would use the seeds.
I was talking to my friend Dave Thorpe yesterday. He works with young people mainly using drama to help them explore issues such as drugs and bullying.Read more
Lunch Club
Chris — 29 April 2008 - 9:50pm
God is really good in giving us opportunities to go into schools to serve them. We run a weekly lunch club in a local secondary school. We play some games with the kids, do a short thought to help them think about who they are, what the world is all about and the possibility that God is interested in them. Its not uncommon for us to attract kids that, well, might not otherwise be popping down the shops to buy the teacher an apple.Read more
Good old fashioned Bible study
Chris — 18 January 2008 - 11:46pm
Tommy I and me (I know that's incorrect grammer, but you can say "Tommy I and I really can you) went into Millbrook School today to do a bible study with some of the students we met doing our lunch clubs on Mondays.
On Mondays, we do a little talk about Jesus and then play some games and chat with them. People have been asking loads of questions recently so we thought we would try something more. Plus, we figured that even if no one else turned up we would still read the bible together which can only be a good thing.

Cantell School update
Becky — 25 September 2007 - 8:54am
It has been exciting over the last 3 years to see the relationships with Cantell School develop, and to see the opportunities to serve the school grow. Bob and Collette Light, from Flower of Justic, were running a Christian Union in the school, and Mim, Noa and Chris began working with them, and then developing other opportunities e.g. lunch clubs for vulnerable pupils, RE lessons and assemblies. Gradually Highfield Church youth team, Above Bar Church youth team, myself, Tommy I and others from Flower of Justice have got involved. Read more
Prayer Update
Becky — 17 May 2007 - 4:35pm
The Christian Union at Cantell School is an exciting place to be. There are so many young people who don't know Jesus as their personal Saviour but really want to find out about Him. There are a couple of Christians who come too, and want to know God better.
Each week we answer their questions, such as:
Does God like cake?
If God made cannabis then is it OK to use it?
Is God a person or a big ball of energy?
Why did God make the world?
This week it was:
Didn't Jesus go up into the clouds - if so, why can't we see Him? Read more
